Broken Links v Prioritising

Thanks for letting me know about the broken links in my Blog – and my apologies for not having fixed them all yet.  It’s been hard NOT to fix them as I wanted that to be a priority!  I hate faults and any imperfections that I think I can fix (given time).

However, I’m also doing my best – prioritising hard and keeping myself organised – so I’m actually using this as an example of self control – to prove that I can keep my word and WILL make my News Site and correct Page Building/Adding to my many other sites a higher priority than correcting a few links on this Blog. (Note the Privacy Policy and About the Major pages now in place!)

I apologise again for broken links though, I must have messed them up when I was trying to learn how to best use the Socrates and Flexsqueeze Themes that I attempted to set up here………. but failed…. oops, slipping back into “Old-Speak” ….  I should have said ……….but haven’t yet succeeded – haha!!

Just as an update so that you know a little more about what I ‘m doing besides just prioritising!! …….. some would keep it secret until completed but this is meant to be a Hype Free area so it’s only fair to let you in on this……….

I am currently still evaluating several different Site Installation Software Packages but have got so involved with the nitty gritty of two of them in particular, and the Manual Site Builder with which I am comparing them, that I am regularly behind my preset deadlines and run out of time for anything else.  I can so far say that I don’t really find JP’s Site Profit Bot a very useful tool for me (I just don’t like the appearance of the Sites or the manner in which I should add content), and also found myself utterly swamped by the vast array of facilities in Chris “The Day Job Killer’s” Affiliate X.
CB Predators is a total “Dog’s Breakfast” and just goes to show that a reasonable product can be ruined by poor planning and abysmal customer support!  Talk about prioritising, it’s easy to see what they had at Number One on their list – and it wasn’t customer satisfaction!
Did anyone else notice Chris Fox and co asking their users to write the manual for them????   How crass can you get?

Edwin Boiten’s “geeky” but very promising program “Octopus” as yet remains untested, though I have now succeeded in completing its installation – an achievement I’m very pleased with as it proved quite difficult for a non-techy like me. I must add yet another vote of thanks to Dan Thomson at D9Hosting – Thanks Dan, your support desk is second to none!!!

Chris Sempel’s Affiliate Genie looks very useful, but I’m only part way into that – sharing time on that one with Marty Roz’s Affiliate Pilot Pro system…….. which I’ve found very impressive so far.  I like his WordPressDirect anyway so maybe I’m a little biased!  (I have to mention that having Keith Baxter as a partner must make a difference there!)

I can’t really comment on the value of Multi Profit Websites as I have not yet completed the first one – I find them a bit dated, and not as easy to adapt to what I currently have in mind as I had expected.   I had to leave Aaron Danker’s Rocket Launcher to some one else to evaluate as I just ran out of funds at the time it came out – haha, an old problem eh?!

I couldn’t possibly afford Nathan Anderson’s Niche ATM system either, or some of the other hugely expensive automated programs that have been pouring out this summer, but I am determined to fully test Ben Shaffer’s “No Cost Traffic System” and that is currently receiving high priority in my daily work. A lot to learn, but well worth it I’m sure.

Prioritising even further…

There are other programs that I’m just scooting around because again, they aren’t on my priority list…..

But I will shortly begin to monetize this Blog and then will give my honest views of programs I would support, along with some of the necessary links.  …………. another hour passed by, but this time it was with one of my “Golf Balls” (if you’ve read one of my other posts).  My 2 year old Grandson Oscar wanted to play “Bubbles” so we’ve had a ball chasing hundreds of them round the lawn……. great fun eh!  Luckily I ran out of Bubble Fluid or we’d be there for another hour yet!

Well, maybe this isn’t a complete post, and it jumps around like an interrupted diary insert – but “it’s all mine folks”, and it sure beats crawling along an Afghan ditch waiting to come across an inevitable IED with no way around it and nowhere to shelter…… I feel for those lads, it can’t be easy!

Don’t forget now, be careful out there (you Hillstreet Blues fans)!
Just my roundabout way of prioritising security……

PS – Hot Damn – this is one topic I’ll never complete in its current form!  Now I also have to contend with AutoBlog Samurai, Stealth Profit Machines, Word Press Direct Platinum, Affiliate Pilot Pro, Ed Charkow’s Wordpress Monthly, and a whole host of other “Rapid Site Builder” and “Controller” programs.

Never mind, it’s all great fun isn’t it?!  Have you tried the new PLR Monthly or John T’s Free Web Site Monthly yet?
It’s all a question of Prioritising – haha

Broken Links v Prioritising

  1. Sally says:

    Hi John

I never noticed any broken links, not the most observant of people at times I’m afraid.

Really looking forward to your reviews, you always tell it like it is, not just after a fast buck like most.

    Speak soon, Sally :)

  2. John says:

Thanks Sally, I really need to be able to work full time on line!
I’m putting in many hours a day as it is, as well as the Shop work.
This is resulting in a growing waistline, so the bike will have to come out of the garage soon so that I can go for a daily spin – up to Tescos and back if Jean has her way!!!
I did once cycle to a Bowls Match when Jean needed the car, but it was 20 miles to Hovingham from the centre of York and I hadn’t allowed for the weight of my Bowls bag…….. well, to be exact, the weight of the 4 heavy woods IN the bowls bag! Not funny how steep those hills are when you just have ancient muscle power and old lungs to rely on … makes me puff to think of it … I didn’t play too well that evening – haha!!
PS: Luckily a friend gave me a lift home in his van, he took pity on me.

  3. Mandy Allen says:

Hi John, I always love blog posts that give honest evaluations of products that people have actually used, rather than the pre written stuff that marketers give to affiliates. This always tells the marketers story, but the experience on the ground. I’ll be back to read your assessments!

    Enjoy the journey.

    Mandy

  4. Barry Wells says:

Hi John, I’ve found your blog through the 100 blog comment challenge and I’ve added your details to my contributors page.

I’m really pleased that you have joined the challenge John, as i found your blog post very refreshing and honest. It’s a nice change to find someone that actually looks into each product as you do and give their honest opinion.

I’ll be coming back on a regular basis John.

    Respect and Regards, Barry

  5. John Edler says:

    Hi John,

What a lovely post and, not meaning to spam your site, I’ve just posted about Paula and Dan (D9) on my blog, aren’t they just great?

Time Management is a favourite topic of mine and it’s so important to distinguish between urgent and important. So many people spend their lives fighting bush fires and never getting the important stuff done; it’s refreshing to hear your approach.

    Take care

    John

  6. John,

Have you thought about putting your review talent into a brief report? Your honest reviews of all those products/systems would be quite valuable to first-time marketers starting out on their online journey. Of course, you may not make many friends with the merchants trying to peddle some of that old and tired stuff, but whose side do you want to be on anyway – the peddlers or the newbies who need a little protection from the peddlers and their predator-like affiliates?

Good honest reviews are really difficult to find. Keep on telling it like it is.

    Cheers, Michael.

  7. Randy Smith says:

    Hi John,

I too like the honest evaluations….
But if I may be so crude:
I do think you should include your affiliate links to the sites and services mentioned… so that people can at least reward your effort by choosing your link if they decide to buy!!

    Randy

  8. Terry Conti says:

Hi John, I like your post, you tell it like it is. Unlike all the hype out there, the way you write is real. I like that. Looking forward to see what programs you support. Terry Conti

  9. Jason Ser says:

    Hi John,

Man!! How do you all that? Hyper tasking like that. I really wish have half the capacity of your brain functions.

And I respect even more on your self control power, reviewing all the programs or sites without being sucking into their marketing and sales pitch.

Tell me, how do you switch into the [don't buy anymore mode] when you visit those site and yet can give an in depth reviews? I think is a skills that worth a million.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers
    Jason Ser

  10. Dawn Kay says:

    Hi John

I have to agree with Mandy I prefer affiliate recommendations from people that actually have used the product and give honest opinions rather than ,this is the best product in the world with nothing wrong with it and you’ve definitely got to buy it – only to find out its a load of rubbish.

I know I can count on you for an honest review John just make sure your not buying all these products to review first or you’ll have Randy on your back (lol).

    Good luck and take care

    Dawn Kay

  11. John says:

Hi Randy, sorry I couldn’t fit in Northallerton yesterday, I’m short staffed this week as Jean & Rachel committed themselves to some of their Golf Balls (see my post at http://www.major-reviews.com/m.....alls/22267 if you don’t understand the Golf Ball reference) and this particular one lost out!! At least we now know Rachel is expecting a Boy (in December). Their next day out is visiting an older couple who just celebrated their Golden Wedding, he’s 87 (makes me feel quite sprightly by comparison).
You are spot on target with the helpful monetising suggestion of course, and thanks for that.
However, because I have had a Linking Problem I didn’t include any in case I just annoyed readers by having them disappear into nowhere!!
I will get it sorted as soon as I can reach that item on my “To Do” List.
Enjoyed your Rant, reminds me of John Harrison at Streetwise (have you read his book “Man Sets Fire To Friends Head”?
His piece about the so-called Restaurants of the East Yorks Coast just had me in stitches!!).
Must get on – been in the shop all day and I mustn’t nod off before I’ve gone through these welcome posts!
Keep on loving – but even more important – keep on living!!!!
    John

  12. John says:

Hi Terrry, thanks for the comment – one suggestion – look up how to add an Avatar/Pic with your posts, it’s much better to be personal _in my view).

  13. John says:

    Hi Jason,
I am naturally a bit like a Magpie – I tend to hoard shiny new things.
However, I do recognise that as being a characteristic of an Internet Marketing Hobbyist and I am trying very hard to give that up.
Not buying any more is made much easier by my needing the funds to keep our offline retail business afloat!!
However, there are some programs that I consider are either an integral part of what I am trying to achieve on line, or look as though they can be – so I give them a whirl if I can.
One big advantage I have gained over the several years I have been a Hobbyist is that I already recognise very many of the “Crap Product”, or “Regurgitated Product” Gurus……….. so I just know what sort of thing they are spitting out. I do still occasionally buy from them to test their current form, but I usually find that they haven’t changed their spots!!!
    John

  14. John says:

Nice to hear from you Dawn – I was a bit concerned that my late night ramblings involving scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Bullwhips just might have been a step too far if you were reading them over your cornflakes!! Haha.
I’m struggling with a News Site at present and as I’m tired I keep grinding to a halt as waves of sleep still my hand on the Mouse – and then send Rumbling Snores reverberating throughout the house. I’m woken up again though when my snores get so loud that they awaken Jean in front of the TV and she bellows from the other room….
What have we poor old giffers come to eh? Darby and Joan were never portrayed like this!
    John

  15. Hi John
    Hope you are well.

I love this blog theme, I used it for about a year..it was like
meeting an old friend when your site loaded :)

You sure are busy testing and reviewing everything…I know where to come when I’m about to buy something…and I agree with Randy, I think people would be happy to go through your link after the work you’ve put in…and of course they’ll know where to come when it works out as you’ve said..or not :)

    Take it easy
    cheers
    Steve

  16. John McNally says:

Blimey John, you’re working at a lot of products! I admire your work-rate, and certainly couldn’t match it. 8)

I made a pledge recently to stop buying products, and concentrate on making money out of all the things I have already bought, and are stashed away somewhere on my computer. ;-)

I noticed that most of the products you mentioned automate web-site building in one form or another. Have you ever considered designing your own websites? – It’s easier than you may think.

I went to college and tried to learn Dreamweaver (the industry standard website builder), but it was too complicated, and not user friendly. However the program that has transformed my Internet Marketing prospects is XSitePro2, a really, really, REALLY EASY web design program. It’s around £150 but worth every penny. They give a free 30 day trial, so have a play with it. I bet you have your own website, designed the way YOU want, before the month is out. :-)

Good luck with the 100 comment challenge Pete.

    John

  17. John says:

Hi John – Yes, I treated myself to X-Site Pro v2 last year when it came out.
We’d already discussed it a lot in our Mastermind Group and Martin Avis’s Special Offer tipped the scales for me …..
BUT – though I had a bash with it for a few weeks I didn’t stick with it because I found WordPress Sites much easier to deal with.
    John

  18. Stan Young says:

    Hi John
I am not quite up to speed with all the product reviews that you are doing, I think maybe because I am not part of the Masterclass some of the products that you are talking about would make more sense. I agree with all the comments above it will be good to get some down to earth honest evaluations of all the products that you are testing. I didnt notice any broken links mind you I am not that technically minded. Thanks for sharing.

  19. Hi John,

That is a interesting way to describe marketing, prisoners escaping.
We owe it to ourselves to escape from our current situation and return to fighting for ourselves.
My hat goes off to those brave men and women fighting that pointless war.Respect.

    Pete

  20. Hi John
I too agree with all of the above and like Randy say’s getting some links in there would be a good idea.
    What broken links??
I’ll be back to check out some reviews.
    All the best
    Gert

  21. Hi John,
So many good things about this challenge… got to meet someone who actually uses products before recommending them… refreshing.

However I do agree that you need to link the reviews to your affiliate site so you can benefit from it.

    “I’ll be back!”

    Good to meet you John.
    Cheers
    Bryan

  22. Vance Sova says:

    Hi John,

It looks like you are and will be doing a lot of reviews.

As for the broken links I don’t know where they are. Perhaps on some older post?

Lack of time is a big problem for most of us and doing everything we’d want to is like an ever moving mirage.

    Vance

  23. Hi John

Discovered your blog through the ’100 comments challenge’, have to agree with you about d9 hosting’s support, best support I’ve come across in my online ventures.

    Best wishes!

    Stuart

  24. Hey John,
I wouldn’t even know a broken link looks like if I saw one:P Your site looks good too:)

  25. Rob Corrigan says:

Hi John, how do you find time to evaluate all these products? Its taken me 3 days to do the rounds of the 100 blog challenge and I’m only on number 29 so far.

The comments on the products are very interesting and its nice to have a diferent perspective than the ones from those who are trying to sell us the products.
    Cheers
    Rob

  26. Hi John

I am so glad that I decided to take part in the 100 comment challenge, without it I would never have strayed outside my comfort zone and gone exploring.

Good to hear you are taking the time to do full reviews, not just rushing out content.

One thing I have noticed on my long journey to the starting line. Sometimes if you do not ‘get’ a program or course, leave it for a few months before returning to it. With your extra experience, the value of the scheme may be more apparent, or of course you now know that it really is rubbish!

all the best, look forward to reading your future posts. I am adding all blogs to my FeedDemon account.

  27. Hi John

Thanks for the comments about the products you tried. I’d love to read more details on each.
Have you tried anything yet that capitalizes on the mobile phone market? I hear that’s the next thing past the internet.

    Alex

  28. Hello John,

I am an army veteran myself. Only 3 years though, but I had a wonderful time ans will always treasure the experience. I was in an engineering outfit in Karlesrhue, Germany. The place has been torn down now I hear. I was in from 1974-1977. I met some great people and learned a lot. I went in when I was 17 years old so that was really my first experience with structure and working a steady job. I think every kid out of high school should do it.

    About the blog post:

Thanks for evaluating those software products because a lot of us don’t have the time or the money to invest and it will save us the time of going out there and doing it ourselves.

    Take Care,
    Steve

  29. John says:

Hi Alex, and Steve…….. thanks for the comments. I’m a bit surprised that you ask about the mobile phone market Alex as that will be one of the first things to collapse in a calamity – haha! But, I might yet get around to it – young Adam Horwitz has kicked up a storm with his latest product and I’m having to keep unsubbing and deleting to reduce the number of emails about Mobile Monopoly! I remember some of the Army Communications set up providing secure mobile communications to front line major units with the “Ptarmigan” Communications Network – the phones were like big green bricks (but that was the 80′s!).
Got to go, it’s cold enough for porridge this morning! I’d better revise my stick rubbing (Ray Mears) in case it gets even colder!
    John

  30. Hi John:
I am here for the first time, as I joined 100 comments challenge. I know you do write reviews. I did read your post about broken links and some reviews. But I did not these products. However I had a glance at everyones comments and everyone who know the quality of your reviews.

Wow sounds like you are working to hard to build the bussiness. Creating a new site and keep this site alive is double work. Review sites make good money. Hopefully I will see you money making site soon. Good luck.

    Talk again

  31. Craig says:

    Hi John,

It’s one of those tedious jobs sorting the broken links out but one of many jobs that has to be done.

Looking forward to the reviews, are you a beta tester for some of these products or just have a nice flow of cash to spend???

Looking forward to the product Ben Shaffer’s “No Cost Traffic System”. As I was on the webinar with Andrew Fox and Ben explaining about this product. It came with a high ticket price but discounted and the methods used to dominate google looked amazing but only short term I think.

Will be back to check that review!!!

    Cheers

    Craig

  32. Hi John. I think you should produce a “resource report” – a list of all the products you’ve reviewed and give this away as a freebie to build your list (or sell it!) to people wanting to run an internet marketing online business.

I’ve posted a link to this page on identi.ca for you (makes a change from Twitter!)

  33. John says:

    Thanks Martyn,
I’ll follow that up as soon as I get chance.
I’ve had it in the slow boiler for a while, but am shortly going to change the whole arrangement here to one of Review Pages with Blog separate, as I believe Randy Smith suggested to me 3 years ago!! Then I’ll put in an Opt-In and crack ahead……
OK, YES – I must be a slow learner!
    John

  34. Hi John,
I always find your writing both educating and funny ;)
Honest evaluations are the only way to go in this business…and, I think it is fairly easy to see when someone is writing an honest one compared to one trying to only capture your money.

Two points:….I love Dan and Paula and d9…they are simply the best at what they do and they are always so, so helpful!

And, I agree with Randy…wouldn’t hurt to put your affie links in.I certainly wouldn’t be offended by it…after your honest reviews. ;)
    Kathy

  35. Hi John

It all is certainly a process and I found that when I made myself a to do list I was much more productive. Of course having said that one of my reasons for coming online was the freedom of being my own boss so it is great when you can take the time and go and play with your grandson(I have 2 and we mind them every Wednesday).
Persistence pays off so keep at it in someway everyday and the payoff will come.

    Best wishes
    Anne

  36. It’s amazing what we can mess up when trying things out. I agree that prioritizing is a must in this business or you can waste a lot of time on things that don’t matter too much.

    Sandy

  37. Hi John,

This is my first visit to your blog so I didn’t click on any of your broken links…

What I like from this post is your honesty about your mentioned product! Many marketers would promote any affiliate product just for the sake of an affiliate commission! Another mistake you have identified is not to copying and pasting the default promotional review of a product. People are looking for honest reviews of a product showing the positive and the negative things of a product or a service.

Anyway I knew that I would find honest internet marketers by joining the 100 Blog Post Challenge!

Keep that way and you will succeed!
    Andreas

  38. Andy Brown says:

    Hi John,

I have read your post with interest and my one recommendation would to work up this business model around one specific element of internet marketing. There are far too many products to continually review everything new that comes out.

I believe you have a better chance of monetising your blog if you for instance become the trusted source for unbiased reports on say traffic generation.

Please get back to me if you would like to discuss this further.

    Kind Regards

    Andy

  39. Abizer says:

    Hi John

Nice to have a reviews about products from folks other than the marketers themselves or affiliates – as that would show only one side of the coin. However reviews from users is altogether a different. You are working on reviews of quite a lot of products. Are you going to provide detailed reviews about all these you mentioned in the post – I would be really interested.

I had been on webinars of NicheATM & WPMage & EPIC Traffic Systems – ALL looked kool products but very very expensive ..

Wondering if you’ve had a chance to review xsitepro 2 – have been reading about it and asking a lot of questions to their support desk .. seems quite a decent on for web-site building …

Brilliant work … you’ve earned a returning rather permanent visitor :-)

Good luck for the 100 blog post challenge.
    Cheers!
    Abizer

  40. Hi John,

An interesting post and a fun read.
I’ll be checking out the rest of your blog to see if it is as interesting.

    //Daniel

  41. John says:

    Hi Abizer,
I couldn’t afford the high ticket schemes either but the initial info given away with Epic Traffic Systems was really an eye opener.
I just haven’t been able to get around to trying out the free Image/banner creator software that they gave away.
My OnLine time is more limited now as Off Line work preparing for Christmas Stock at our Candles and Gifts Shop is taking up a lot of time.
However, I do intend to change this Blog to a Page per Review style and picked up a lot of useful tips on this from reading “Niche Site Formula” by Mantas Konstantinavicius.
Thanks for your comment, Id better get cracking now though, I’ve a lot of Shop paperwork to sort out!
    John

  42. Hi John,

nice to see another blog offering really honest and down to earth reviews of the latest products and fads to hit the market. I shall be checking back to read more of your reviews very soon!

  44. John:

You certainly have a lot on your plate. How do you keep up with it all?

I respect you for giving honest reviews of products you have tried…not promoting the product with author’s pre-written emails, blog posts, etc.

I have bookmarked your site to come back to in order to read those reviews.

Thanks for a very interesting post.

    Kat

  45. Hello John,

I must admit that my eyes are really tired tonight, but I appreciate your trying to give honest recommendations on products!

I have a website I put together using JP’s Site Profit Bot about 8 months ago or more. I was not happy with the end result and will be rebuilding it another way. The product may have gotten better since I got tired of it, but I am moving on.

You shouldn’t worry so much about the broken links, even though it sounds like you are like me…”a perfectionist to some degree”. Take one step at a time and fix the links when you can, if they exist.

Keep up the good work and I hope to see the results of your research sometime soon.

    Take care,

    Mark

  46. Hi John, a very lively article! All the positive responses go to show how important honest reviews are to everyone. The hard part is finding one, until now that is. Keep crushin’, Steve D.

  47. Jacinta Dean says:

    Hi John,

    I finally got here! :D

Boy can I relate to the golf balls! And yes I know that was not what this post was about.

I think it is important to only promote what you truly believe in and have used or had some sort of experience with.

I have noticed over the last 12 months internet marketing has changed. I have been on a few lists over the last 3 years and most people that used to give good content just blatantly try and sell now.

A lot of marketers have forgotten to care about their readers and subscribers and are just going for the numbers. I think they have forgotten there are real people at the end of the email!

If I like a marketer, then I WILL buy through their link if I trust their recommendation.

Stay positive and stay true to what you believe in.

I hope everything is going well with the golf balls!

    Don’t forget the comments challenge.

    Cheers

    Jacinta :D

  48. Brian Alcock says:

    Hi John,

Great to meet you on the challenge and my first of many visits to your review blog.

I like everyone else can appreciate all the hard work you must be putting into this. I am a master at storing unused products on my hard drive.

I shall look forward to returning soon, for more of your excellent information.

    Regards,

    Brian

  49. Tom Harvey says:

John, interesting article – was beginning to think that I was the only one buying loads of products and struggling to find time to use them all!!
Haven’t gone down the automated site route so would be very interested in your feedback as and when you get through testing all the programs. I do agree that there is nothing worse than buying a product only to find substandard user instructions and support.
Will bookmark the blog now and follow for your updates. cheers

    Tom

  50. Hi John
That was a very useful post. Some of the products I recognised some not at all. Keep up your mission. I shall be back to further explore your site.
    Good luck with the challenge.
    All the best
